SAN in HOSTING
How about 100% availability so that customer feels better instead of saying 99.8% what everybody is providing. This can be achieved when SAN is used with failover setup. SAn should be correctly built and engineered so that there is not a single point of failure.
Does it look unrealistic for a real world hosting environment to give "Unlimited Disk Space" and "Unlimited bandwidth" features?
Well, it's not, with sAN(Storage Area Network), it is possible to give customers, virtually unlimited disk space. In a SAN server farm, unlike a traditional server, data is not stored in internal hard drives. They are stackable and upgradeable to virtually an unlimited amount, up to thousands upon thousands of Terabytes (TB) of hard disk space. If we see an increase in demand, there is need to just stack additional hard drives into the SAN, thus enabling us to provide customers with unlimited storage.
It is true that everything has a limit, so if anybody is consuming lot of resources, how long will he be continued to do so, as there are lot of customers in a hosting company, it cannot provide everything to one customer, so a hosting company need to determine the level of resources and need to take the corrective action so that its set policy is always applicable. If a customer is not abiding its policies, hosting company is liable to disconue his services. So a question could be arised, that how it is "unlimited" then.
There could be a thinking that there is a partiality, one customer is using lot of resouces, and one is very little.
This could be thought as a little bit narrow minding, well the resource is available and if you are not able to use it, it could not be called as partiality.
IS SAN susepible to Failed HD, hacked websites, blocked ips and with Hacking?
In SAN, file systems are mounted at the block level, so same security schemes apply, and also for the security reasons SAN management interface shouldn't be publically accessible anyway. So, SAN architectuer has not effect in hacked websites and blocked IP's.
