Mail Alias vs Mail Forward

When we are going to view them from the service level, both seems to be equal, though we use stores rather than forwards. In most of the cases clients have general email addresses for which they would like messages to be distributed to multiple email boxes on their domain. They can do the same by any of the two methods:-
i) They can set a Mail Alias for the address and store to the email boxes that they want to receive the messages.
A mail alias is a nickname that you can use instead of your original e-mail address. The primary reason to use a mail alias is that it can provide you with a more recognizable e-mail address. CPWebHosting do not limit number of mail aliases one can have. The greatest benefit of mail alias is their ability to protect your main address from spam. For example, you can use an mail alias to sign up to websites, forums and newsletters. If the mail alias becomes flooded with junk mail, it is easy to just delete it and create a new one.

ii) They also set Mail Fowards and specify the addresses that they want to receive the messages. Mail Forward allows you to forward mail from AOL, Gmail, Hotmail, MSN, Netscape, and Yahoo web mail accounts to any e-mail address. Standard POP and IMAP e-mail accounts can also be forwarded.
Mail that is successfully forwarded can either be deleted from the forwarding account mailbox or left on the server. The forwarding account address is used as the return address for the forwarded mail, so if the mail is undeliverable it will be returned to the forwarding account. Using mail forward, all e-mail sent to your forwarding account is automatically delivered to the destination address of your choice.

Both of these methods appear to work just fine. The difference between the two is prevalent in the following two cases:-
- Mail Aliases. I would use this option if the email is staying on your Hsphere server. (ie. one email going to many people at the same domain.)
Use a separate mail alias or email account for commercial and personal business conducted on the web.

- Mail Forward. I would use this option if you are sending the mail to 1 or more people at a different domain. (ie. Mail that needs to leave your hosted domain)
Mail forward can also redirect mail going to one address and send it to one or several other addresses. It may also forward mail going to several different addresses to a single address. The forwarding may take place automatically on a mail server, automatically within the user's E-mail client, or manually, with the intervention of an end user.
