Mail Alias vs Mail Forward
When we are going to view them from the service level, both seems to be equal, though we use stores rather than forwards. i) They can set a Mail Alias for the address and store to the email boxes that they want to receive the messages.

Mail forward can also redirect mail going to one address and send it to one or several other addresses. It may also forward mail going to several different addresses to a single address. The forwarding may take place automatically on a mail server, automatically within the user's E-mail client, or manually, with the intervention of an end user.
